Totoro Piñata

The Totoro Piñata was a fun collaboration project between me and my friend Phil Chan to recreate the famous character from the studio Ghibli fim My Neighbor Totoro.

The body of was crafted from a balloon-shaped papier-mâché shell reinforced with a cardboard ribcage for stability.

For the ears, we used tissue-wrapped chopsticks, and the feet were formed from paper cups.

To mimic Totoro’s fuzzy appearance, we layered the entire surface with blue and white paper strips.

Finally, we designed a unique pull-string mechanism using toothpicks that released the candy from a hidden latch in Totoro’s belly!
